Part 3 - World 2
Total time: 3h 17m 50s
1 death @ Galaxy Generator
0:23 - 11.Puzzle Plank 1 - 1m 35.61s (Comet Medal 6)
0:57 - It's not necessary to spin at the triple jump shortcut, but I do it as a precautionary measure because I sometimes don't reach the wall at the peak of the jump.
1:32 - On the last planet, I have no idea why a ground-pound sometimes hits multiple times. It happens only occasionally for me, and it cost me some time in this case...
3:13 - 12.Hightail Falls 1 - 1m 18.51s (Comet Medal 7)
4:04 - It actually doesn't make a difference whether you jump or run up the ramps. I just jump out of habit.
5:34 - 13.Boulder Bowl 1 - 1m 51.98s (Comet Medal 8)
6:06 - The Rock Mushroom mid-air jump was found by Darkemperor91. The way I do it is to shake the nunchuck while repeatedly tapping the A button before Mario starts rolling. I succeed most of the time, but sometimes I don't get any extra height.

I was pushed to the left during the Rock Mushroom jump because I rolled into the fence post stump. Good thing the planet's gravitational field is large.
6:47 - Unfortunately, I missed 3 hits on the boss. My goal time for this Star is 1m 45s, so this time isn't too bad. It's still disappointing that the boss fight was about as bad as it could be.
8:45 - 14.Cosmic Cove S - 1m 40.18s
9:20 - This is a pretty big detour for coins, but it's the fastest route I could find. I've tried collecting the coins near the beginning of the level, but it was a few seconds longer.
10:15 - The locations of the Skeeters on the last planet is random. If one is close enough to Mario, it'll charge toward him while Mario chases the Star Bunny or after catching the Bunny. When the Star appears, I check to see if a Skeeter has angry eyes to determine if it'll charge at Mario once I regain control of him.
11:09 - 15.Cosmic Cove 1 - 1m 13.98s (Comet Medal 9)
11:51 - The Comet Medal here costs about 10 seconds.
13:57 - About the Hungry Luma--running from the Luma to the switch would probably be faster than backflipping, but because the camera angle changes between feeding the Luma and regaining control of Mario, Mario stops running for a moment when you regain control of him. I've never been able to prevent this from happening, so I backflip to avoid the problem.
14:24 - 16.Honeybloom S - 16.18s
14:35 - The fatal error to avoid here is jumping too early off the swing. Jumping too early can cause Mario to slip off the wall and potentially fall to the very bottom of the area.

15:17 - While the Star itself is only 16 seconds, adding the times associated with the Hungry Luma and the Bee's appearance brings the total cost of this Star to about 1m 5s.
16:06 - 17.Lava Lair 1 - 4m 22.06s (Comet Medal 10)
No lie, a bug was flying in my face when I flubbed a long-jump on the Floating Plate. I have no excuse for the mistake on the Bowser statue, though XD.

My risk-mitigation strategy here is to spin whenever a long-jump isn't perfectly straight. If a long-jump is even slightly crooked, I find it risky to try to long-jump immediately off the next statue. Unfortunately, I had to spin before landing on all 3 statues. Together with my other mistakes, I lost about 9 seconds total.
18:41 - I'm sure the Bowser fight can be done faster, but I don't think any potential time savings is worth the risk of missing a hit.
