This Super Mario Bros 3 commercial from 1990 captured Mario hype at its absolute peak, and the production behind it is honestly more ambitious than most game ads from that era. The spot opens with a crowd of people standing outdoors chanting Mario's name over and over, before the camera pulls way back to reveal they have arranged themselves into a massive Mario face, large enough to look like it is painted right onto the surface of the Earth from above. That image in the screenshot is exactly that aerial reveal shot.

The actual line from the announcer ties the whole thing together too. After all that chanting, he says He's Back, All You Had To Do Was Ask, before naming Super Mario Bros 3 and closing with Nintendo's classic Now You're Playing With Power tagline, which explains that garbled Do Was Ask text fragment showing up mid commercial. Super Mario Bros 3 itself released on February 12, 1990 in the US, landing right in the middle of what people now call peak Mario fever, the same stretch of time that gave us the movie The Wizard a few months earlier, which leaned so heavily on showing off this exact game that plenty of people consider it basically a feature length commercial in its own right.
