Spinmaster landed on Game Forest GF today and this one marks a pretty notable first for Data East. Released in December 1993 in North America and Europe and the following February in Japan under the title Miracle Adventure, this was actually the very first game Data East ever developed for SNK's Neo Geo hardware. You can see why the title fits too, since the main characters start out armed with nothing but a yo-yo as their weapon, which they can later swap for bombs, icicles or missiles, each with its own charge attack and a stronger super move that burns through a bomb pickup.
The story follows treasure hunters Johnny and Tom chasing down the mad scientist Dr. De Playne, who stole a piece of their treasure map and kidnapped Johnny's girlfriend Mary. You fight through five stages with a unique boss at the end of each, traveling from a Madrid airport, curiously renamed America Airport in the Japanese release, all the way through Egypt, China and Greece, and a second player can jump in at any time controlling Tom. The whole game plays a lot like Data East's earlier hit Joe and Mac Caveman Ninja, sharing a similar cartoonish art style and weapon charging system, and Johnny and Tom themselves were not brand new either, since they had already appeared together months earlier in Data East's own Sega Genesis game Dashin' Desperadoes.
After Data East went bankrupt in 2003, G-Mode picked up the rights to this game along with most of the rest of Data East's catalog, eventually bringing it back on Wii Virtual Console and later as part of the ACA Neo Geo lineup on Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.
