Let's review each episode of the cult classic Viva Pinata TV series based on the hit game in (mostly)under 90 seconds!

Sumo Tsunami did NOT age well... When Fergy discovers the sumo life is one of massage and massive feasts, he joins up to get the benefits with none of the responsibility. Which obviously the writers nor animators took either. So you like stereotypes? Because this segment has ALL the stereotypes! We get a group of sumo wrestlers all represented by hippos, which aren't even Japanese animals, hanging out in a dojo doing what the writers assume sumos do all day. Which I'm not even going to try to determine the authenticity of. But they do speak in broken Engrish with the l and r sounds mixed around, or in the only Japanese words anyone on the staff knew. All voiced by, as far as I know, non-Japanese actors. Hell, they're so shameless, they produce rice balls when cracked open! Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot who made this. I meant jelly donuts. And I don't know how this culture would appreciate having their traditional Mawashi being addressed as a diaper. But at least they don't go for the ultimate blackface-level depiction and give the Asian allegories buck teeth-OH MY GOD! We are officially in a Private Snafu cartoon! But if you can somehow look past all that. ...Well, there's not much else to focus on. Fergy joins the dojo just for the free grub, intending to drop out before he actually has to fight anyone. But, of course, everything he tries to do to get kicked out is interpreted as some respectful tradition, and he's finally forced to spar with the grandmaster. Which is cathartic and fun to watch. Unfortunately, it's not where the segment ends, as Fergy just dresses Langston in the sumo garb and watches while he gets pummeled for no reason while Fergy gets off scot free. Da end. Do I even need to say anything? Even without the questionable depictions, it's another one where Fergy is a complete douche and gets away with no consequences. And for some reason, most of his focus is now on him being fat and loving to eat, which, besides a couple scattered jokes, wasn't really a trait he had in the first season. Heck, I didn't even know he was supposed to be overweight. He's the exact same model as the other Fudgehogs. So, yeah, this segment is just a bunch of cheap shots that, even for 2007, I thought we were done with. If you'll excuse me, I need to go watch Breakfast at Tiffany's to make myself feel better.
