Give yourself the best gift for the holidays, the gift of Myofascial Self Massage. Join Jill as she takes you through therapy ball and breath techniques designed to stimulate the vagus nerve, your body’s down regulator, to ease you into rest, reset and renewal. These moves will help you unwind after a long day, combat chronic stress and promote deep sleep.
The Stress Relief Sequence:
Start by targeting the Orbicularis oculi, the muscle that closes your eyelid, as you massage and pinch the area in your brow area. This massage can soothe the furrowed brow from analysis and straining the eyes looking at a monitor all day.
Next, stimulate your body's relaxation response by placing the ball on the large jaw muscle, the massateur, by massaging the jaw bones with a single Yoga Tune Up Massage Ball. Use the second Yoga Tune Up ball by placing the ball on your jaw with the other hand.
Target text neck by placing an Alpha ball on your nuchsl ligament, the "zipper" for the upper traps. This is a great exercise for those who work on computers and phones. Take time to feel the traction as the ball massages and creates space within your neck area and crosses across the muscles in the back of your neck.
Experiment by creating different movements: figure 8's, nodding yes and no, and even using your legs to rock your body back and forth across the balls.
Finally, end with a breathing exercise by taking a long deep inhale, then quickly take an additional breath as you fill your lungs with air, followed by a long exhale. This works for children and adults to create a relaxation response for the mind, body, and spirit.
