On April 30, 2024. A construction worker called the Jackson Police Department to report a vehicle driving in a closed traffic lane. An officer located the vehicle and saw the driver (Joshua) moving a road closed sign to get through. When the officer activated his emergency lights, the driver hopped into his vehicle and began to flee. While following the vehicle, the officer noticed that Joshua put his hand out the window and gave the "peace" sign with two fingers. The West Bend Police Department assisted with deploying spike strips, which was successful and deflated all four tires on the vehicle. The pursuit lasted for approximately seven miles, before the driver came to a stop at a three way intersection when the road ended. Officers approached the vehicle and gave Joshua commands to exit the vehicle. Joshua exited the vehicle with his hands up and did not resist while being placed in handcuffs. He was searched and placed into a squad car. Nothing of evidentiary value was located on Joshua or in the vehicle. He was then transported to the Washington County Jail and interviewed. Joshua stated that he was a Lyft driver and had been in the area to pick someone up. He said he needed to get through the street and decided to move the signs to do so. Joshua said he saw the officer coming and got into his Jeep and took off for his protection. He said that he didn't want to stop until he knew there were enough "eyes" to witness. Joshua was found Guilty but Not Guilty Due to Mental Disease/Defect for Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer.
