The North Woods Song & Story Fest ,"Voices In The Wilderness," featured wonderful nightly concerts by featured musicians, thought provoking stories, folk dance, recreation, workshops and well deserved quiet-time in the beautiful Northwest setting of Camp Myrtlewood, Bridge, Oregon. For those who haven't been to Camp Myrtlewood, it's 6 miles west of Remote and about 30 miles east of the Big Pacific Ocean.
"Brethren Voices" features the music of Steve Kinzie and his son, Seth Kinzie, who performed together in concert. Steve began playing banjo in 1960 and he has written dozens of songs and recorded five albums of original music, one live album (Matter of the Heart) with friends Shawn Kirchner and Robbie Davis. His other two albums are with the folk group Kindling.
His music consists of hymns of his childhood, Appalachian folk traditions, to jazz-influenced (folk-jazz) style. Along with original lyrics, Steve has set to music, poems by Kabir, Rumi, George Herbert, William Blake, Jessica Powers, Richard Wilbur, E.E. Cummings and others. Spirituality and Buddhist thought are the focus of much of his musical writings.
This program also appreciates Heifer International which has celebrated its 75th Anniversary of freeing people from hunger.
