Brethren have established hospitals and schools in areas where none existed. In 1911, Brethren founded a hospital: Yangquan Youhai Hospital in Pinding, Shanxi Province, China. Many years later and prior to her connections with the Church of the Brethren, one of our special guests walked by this hospital, each morning, on the way to her elementary school.
-- Via Zoom, Brethren Voices interviews the newly appointed Co-Executive Directors of Global Mission for the Church of the Brethren, Ruoxia Li and Eric Miller. Brent Carlson hosts this program live from Pinding. We also meet their seven year-old-daughter, Joanna.
Since January 2020, Ruoxia and Eric served as Global Mission and Service Workers and on March 8, 2021, Ruoxia, who grew up in Pinding, Shanxi Province and Eric from York, PA, began serving the Church of the Brethren in this new role.
The position is a large responsibility for a small denomination of nearly 100,000 people in the United States. Actually, the church has many more members in Nigeria, with others congregations in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, India, Brazil, Spain and Venezuela.
The life journeys of Ruoxia Li and Eric Miller take many twists and turns which led them to meeting in Beijing, China and life together in the United States and China.
