“Going Beyond the Comfort ZONE”
Faith X” is a short-term service program through Brethren Volunteer Service, that offers week-long service trips, domestically and internationally for youth, young adults, and older adults.
Faith Outreach Expeditions – “Faith” expresses that these experiences are a place for theological exploration, discernment, and spiritual growth. “Outreach” speaks to the experience of becoming the hands and feet of Jesus, to the world.
“Expeditions” emphasizes the sense of adventure and fun that all participants, hopefully, experience while serving.
“Brethren Voices” met with a group of Faith X volunteers, serving in Portland, Oregon. The volunteers came from State College, PA, Wichita, Kansas and Bridgewater, Virginia, serving at SnowCap Community Charities which assists families with emergency food and clothing needs. During their non-work hours, volunteers were able to explore sights around the Portland area, as well as beautiful Multnomah Falls, venturing as far as the Oregon Coast on another day.
In this “Brethren Voices” program, volunteers interview each other about their motivations for taking a trip with Faith X, “out of their comfort zones,” to a new place where most of them had never been. For some volunteers, it was the first time to be in contact with unhoused people and/or those who needed some food assistance.
Making a difference in the lives of others, can be a rewarding experience.
