Hi, this is Scott with etrailer, and today we're taking a look at and installing our etrailer Class III Hitch on our 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. Our etrailer hitch we have on our Colorado today is gonna be a good option for people that wanna replace their cross tube that goes underneath of here that you can really only use a ball on. What this is gonna do for you is open up your options. You're gonna have a two inch by two inch receiver. What this is gonna allow you to do is haul some bike racks, some cargo carriers, install a nice ball mount if you need to when you plan on pulling trailers. This is a really nice hitch.
I like this one. I really like the looks of this hitch. It's gonna be a matte black, so it's gonna match really good with our trim that we have on our truck today. Now this hitch is gonna have a 5/8 pin hole opening. That's gonna hold in any of your accessories that you put into your receiver.
Now this won't come in with a pin and clip, so you may wanna pick one of those up here at etrailer. We do have quite a few options. But keep in mind, a lot of your accessories like your bike racks or cargo carriers may come with an anti-rattle pin. This has heavy duty, welded on chain loops, and it's gonna accept either your Clever-style hook or your S-style hooks. So either one of those are gonna work when you plan on pulling a trailer.
As far as measurements go, from the center of our pinhole out to the edge of our bumper, we're looking at right at around 2 1/2 inches. Now that measurement's gonna help you decide on if you have any accessories that fold up or stow away, will make any contact with the back of your truck. Now from the ground to the top inside lip of our receiver, we're looking at a measurement of right at around 18 1/2 inches. That measurement's gonna help you decide on what type of a ball mount you may need to match up to your trailer, but it's also gonna help you decide on if you need a rise in the shank of either your bike racks or your cargo carriers for clearance. As far as weights go for this hitch, this one's gonna have some pretty good numbers for it.
This one's gonna have a tongue weight rating of 800 pounds. That's gonna be the weight of your bike racks or your cargo carriers loaded down with all of your gear, pushing down on the lower portion of the hitch itself. Now for a gross trailer weight rating, we're looking at 8,000 pounds. That's gonna be the weight of your trailer and everything that you have loaded on that. Now this is capable of weight distribution and that's gonna bump up your numbers a little bit. It's gonna bump up your tongue weight rating to 1,000 pounds and that's gonna also bump up your trailer weight rating to 10,000 pounds. Now keep in mind, it's always a good idea to take a look in your owner's manual and make sure that you're not exceeding any of your maximum towing capabilities listed in there. Now as far as installation goes, this one really isn't too bad. It's definitely something you could handle doing yourself, but if you don't have the time or the tools or the place to do this, you can always take a look at our installer locator and get something done for you locally. To starter installation, we're gonna need to get our spare tire down out of the way. That's gonna give us some room. Now you could use your truck's jack hardware to get this down. I just have one of our bars for this, so let's get that down and out of the way. (metal rattling) So what we need to do is we're gonna have this cross member that comes across the back. We're gonna need to get this out of the way. And we're gonna do this by keeping our bumper in place. Now this will share the support up to the frame with our bumper, but this will be getting removed. So attached to that underneath of here, we're gonna have this bracket. And basically what this does is kind of supports our spare tire when we bring it all the way up. So we're gonna have four bolts. What I wanna do is I just wanna get this removed and take it out of the way using a 13 mill
