Hi, this is John with etrailer, and today, we're gonna take a look at and install our Thule roof rack on our 2022 Chevrolet Equinox. This roof rack is gonna be a great choice for you if you're looking for something that is a simple install and has a lot more overhang than most. It's gonna allow you to maximize that crossbar space. This particular roof rack right here is gonna be for a raised rail setup like on our vehicle here today. If your roof does look a little bit different than what we have right now, you can hop on our website, use our fit guide to find the appropriate roof rack for you. Some cool features about this bar is it's gonna be an aero design that's gonna help with noise reduction and be a little bit more aerodynamic for you.
One cool feature that I do like is the ability to flip up that cap instead of remove the whole thing when putting in an accessory into the T-slot. Once you slide that in, then you can flip that cap back and then you're locked in. I do like the way it does clamp onto our factory rails, does grab pretty nicely, little to no gap. And then also with tightening it down, it's pretty simple. That cap removes and then you take your provided tool, tighten it down, be the same thing on all of them.
Now we're gonna get some measurements on our roof rack here. These are gonna be important measurements when choosing this. First, we're gonna get the overhang measurement, which is gonna be from point on our tower to our usable space on our bar, which is about four and a half inches. That measurement is important when choosing a kayak carrier, for example. It's gonna fit most kayak carriers that do have smaller size clamps.
Now we're gonna get our total height measurement, which is gonna be measuring the tallest point on our factory-raised roof rail to the tallest point on our roof rack, which is about two and a half inches. And then the next measurement we're gonna get is the overall clearance from the bottom of that roof rack to the top of our roof. And that is gonna be three and a half inches. The total height measurement is gonna be important to consider if you store your vehicle in a garage or any other space similar to that. And then the total clearance measurement is gonna be important to consider, especially if you have a sunroof on your vehicle.
Our last and final measurement is gonna be getting our crossbar spread. Right now, we're gonna measure from the front of one bar to the front of the other bar, which is about 22 and a half inches. That's gonna be a very important measurement for if you already have an existing accessory or you're planning on picking out a new one. In this kit, we're gonna have two main crossbars and four towers needed to attach them to our raised-rails and then also a tool provided in the kit to tighten them down. Now, if you are interested in how to install this, stick around and I'll show you how to do it. To begin our install, we're gonna go ahead and get all of our parts kind of laid out here. We're gonna have our two towers and then we're gonna have our provided tool here in the kit. And then we're gonna have a tape measure for making sure the bars are even and then we're gonna have the main bar itself. Now I already have one bar installed, but it's gonna be the same process for this one. So we'll go ahead and kind of get into it and show you what I did. First of all, we're gonna flip this guy over. It's gonna have two tabs on either side. It's gonna take your thumb, press it down. It's a little hard to pull off the end-cap sometimes. And then we're gonna do the same thing on this side there. And then we're gonna come and install our towers on the bar. We're gonna slide these guys into the groove there. Same thing on the other side. Now it is important to put the end-caps back on, just kind of helps with preventing it from flying off on you whenever you're going to lay it onto your roof. With everything put together, we're gonna go ahead and lay it on our roof. Make sure that the fat side of the bar is facing forward. Laid on that rail and then this one. Now we're gonna make sure our bars are even. Here on our setup today, we're gonna make sure that they are spread apart as far as they'll go on both sides evenly. After that, we're gonna check our overhang to make sure it is even on both sides. If it is a little uneven, you
