Hello, neighbor, this is Curt with etrailer, and today, we're taking a look at these custom floor mats from WeatherTech, and we're gonna see how they fit in the front row of our 2022 Airstream Interstate 19. So, as you can see, the coverage is pretty similar to what you're going to get out of that factory carpet mat. But the big difference is gonna be this high sidewall protection that we've got going around. This, to me, is huge because these consoles get scuffed up by shoes and boots all of the time. So, having this protection going really all the way around, as you can see here and up and even toward the outside, I think is really, really good coverage. The other thing we're gonna take a look at, too, is how everything kind of slopes down into this reservoir area, here.
That way, any liquids or anything, you're not gonna have puddles and pools all over the place. It'll all draw down here and pool up. And if I lift the skirting under the seat, you could see that that walled protection even goes up underneath here, so you don't have to worry about any of that spillage getting under the seat. And if you did just wanna do a quick wipe right out, you could do that. It does kind of fold over here, down to your step.
So, if you really just need to sweep it out really quickly, it does a good job of that as well. So, over here on the driver's side, you see we get the same type of high wall coverage coming around on the inside, here. The coverage goes all the way up underneath our pedals and it covers the dead pedal here as well. But we've got that same lip that we can sweep out from here. Same reservoir to collect and pool any of that liquids or anything like that.
And we've got some snap-in anchors on the driver's side that are gonna keep it held in place. Now, this is one large piece and it does cover the center area really well, as well as the center of that console. One place it doesn't cover that the factory does, though, is exactly where I'm standing now, which is going to be that spot in between the two seats. It does dead-end here. We've got this kind of rubberized texture flooring here, though, so it's not like it's, you know, over carpet.
But you should know that this area here is not going to be all that well protected. So, if it's me, I might, you know, if I'm concerned with it, because it is a pretty easy-clean area, I might, you know, cover it up with something. But overall, I prefer this kind of high wall protection. If I'm gonna sacrifice anything, I prefer to have this protection over the protection between the seats, personally. So, from a construction standpoint, the big difference between the factory and the WeatherTech is the fact that the factory is gonna be that kind of more standard carpet over a rubberized texture in the back to keep it from sliding around. And we're gonna go over the finer details of the coverage differences inside of the van momentarily. But just for now, you get kind of a general idea of the differences. Now, from a construction standpoint, while these carpeted ones are very common, they are, in my opinion, they just don't hold up very well. They trap a lot of dirt no matter how much you clean 'em. They tend to keep a smell sometimes no matter how much you clean 'em. And overall, they wear through pretty quickly, too, just depending on how much you're using 'em and how wet and nasty they get as you do. But with the WeatherTech, what we've got is this rubberized texture over a rigid plastic core. It really does a good job of keeping its shape. You are gonna have a really tough time puncturing through this at all, as opposed to something like this where, you know, the heel on your right foot is gonna wear into that, switching back and forth between the brake and the gas. Those can wear holes in 'em really, really easily. You're not gonna do that at all with the WeatherTech. But installation is a breeze, and let me show you real quick how to get it up into the van. So, installation's fairly simple. It is all one piece. It's a little bit rigid. So, my suggestion would be just to make sure you kinda start with the driver's side a little bit so that you can make sure that you feed it up underneath those pedals.
