Hi, Matt with etrailer. Today we're gonna be talking about RV Designer's incandescent light. That's gonna be the amber one. So let's take a closer look at it. So there's a few reasons why you might want to pick up one of these, and that's gonna be mainly because your old one is no longer working. Whether it's just been there for a long time and no longer works anymore, that's a reason to replace it.
Or you've been driving down the road and it got hit by a rock, a branch, or when you're pulling into or out of a garage, you clipped the side of a wall and damaged it. Those are a few reasons why you might wanna pick up one of these. And what's nice about them is they work really well, very simple design, and really easy to install, which I'll show you later on how to do. But I also wanna go over making sure you do pick up the right one for your trailer. So here on the front, we have an amber one.
Typically, you'll want to put a red one on the back, so make sure you're picking up the right one and installing it into the right location. I also recommend checking your state laws, because certain sized trailers do need a set number at certain locations, so check what your laws are to make sure you're gonna be ready to go. I do wanna speak to the quality of this light. So right now it's a little bit hard to see it actually shining through, and that's just something you typically see within incandescent light. If you want something a little bit brighter, I would recommend checking out some of our LED ones.
RV Designer does make some of those. But this is nice if you want more of a softer and more, like, warm tone light, too. So that's good to know. But with this design here, it's gonna be relatively smooth, so it doesn't really stand out too much, which I kinda like for a trailer today. And the other thing with that light, before I forget, is you can still see it right here, but when it's nighttime, it's gonna be a lot easier to see that light.
So when you are changing lanes, people will notice you. And when it comes to installing this, this is gonna take any time at all. And what I like about this is, one, you don't have to take off that lens cap like you do with a lot of other ones out there, and you're gonna have two black wires on here, so they're gonna be compatible with either your ground, or your powers, or even if you get 'em flopped, it's still gonna work. All right, so what we wanna do with this is relatively pretty simple. We just wanna go to the spot where we took off our old one. Make sure you do have a hole enough so this can sit on here flush like I do right here, 'cause this on the back of it does stick out a little bit. If you need to enlarge yours, I'd recommend doing so, widening it out a little bit above your set to go. All we have to do is push these wires through that hole, make sure it is lined up here and you have that foam pad that comes with this. What's nice about this one specifically, a lot of the other ones you do have to take off this lens here. This one you don't. They're just gonna be going straight from the side here. I'm gonna double-check to make sure we're not going through the foam weird. Looking good there. And then, I'm gonna secure this down. (drill whirring) (drill whirring) Looks like we're a little bit off. There we go. (drill whirring) With this on here, I'm gonna go to the backside, do some of our wiring, make sure everything works there, and then secure the other side down. All right, so, it's gonna be a little bit tight for me, but I'll try to show you guys what I'm doing here. So I'm gonna be utilizing some heat-shrink butt connectors, just 'cause we don't want any moisture to get into these. Now, if you got yours on a spot on your trailer where it's inside, you don't have to worry about moisture. You can just use some wire nuts. Now what's really nice about this process too is once I get this all prepped up from the other side, we're just gonna push this through our connector. Once that's on there, you're gonna notice there's two black wires. These are interchangeable. So this can be your power or ground and vice versa. So you can't really mess it up. We're getting them mixed up. Once that's through there, then we'll be able to crimp them down, and then use a heat gun to seal the deal. (heat gun whirring) All right, so we got everything wired up.
