In this video, I collect the star "Star Road Abandoned Toad" in 0.5 A Presses. This video is an improvement from Superdavo0001's video in which he completes this mission in 2 A Presses, which you can find here. youtube.com/watch?v=1IAgqfrg8GA&feature=youtu.be Since then, we devised a plan to use the fly guy to lower the A press count. From the normal gray platform, we had no success of lowering this count. However, I took notice that the shy guy can also go over to the rainbow pillar, which would give some extra distance and height. At first, it only seemed possible to lower the count to 1.5x, but after some testing (and a lot of failed attempts) I finally found a way to get the count down to 0.5x, enjoy the video!
If you wonder what some of the notation is, look here:
Whenever the A button is pressed, the text "A Press # (number)" will appear, notifying where and when the A press is hit.
If that text is in blue, that means that A press will be held and will later be used for a different purpose.
The blue A in the corner shows that the A button is currently being held.
If the blue A in the corner has a yellow outline, that means the held position of the A button is currently being used.
The A presses used in this video:
Held from 0: To AB Kick off of the rainbow pillar, and float slowly after bouncing off of the fly guy.

Time for an annoying water lev- wait why are we back at 3-1?
Video Notes:
3-2 marks the first underwater level. Unfortunately, this means I need to swim, a lot. Even with optimal swimming, getting around the level takes several 2 presses. This is where the return pipe becomes useful again. After getting Thudley, we return back to Flipside and replay 3-1 instead of backtracking up the long vertical shaft.
Speaking of Thudley, I now have access to a very useful jump replacement. Initiating a ground pound while on the ground brings Mario into the air completely 2less. This grounded Thudley jump doesnt go as high or far as a normal jump, but its still very useful for this challenge. With Thudley, we can go through 3-1 and the rest of 3-2 without needing to press 2 at all.
2 Presses:
1 - To open the quick menu
2 - To switch to Mario
3 - To swim to a 3D alcove
4 - To swim to a 3D alcove
5 - To swim to a 3D alcove
6 - To swim to a 3D alcove
7 - To swim up a small ledge
8 - To swim up to a pipe
9 - To swim up to a pipe

18 - To jump to the pipe
19 - To swim to the post
20 - To open the Important Items Menu
21 - To select the Return Pipe
22 - To return to Flipside
23 - To cross the large, underground pit
24 - To save the game
25 - To save the game
Challenge Notes:
This is the Super Paper Mario: 2 Button Challenge. The goal of the challenge is to beat Super Paper Mario while pressing the 2 button as few times as possible. Beating Super Paper Mario requires Mario and the other characters to reach the end credits. Any method is allowed.
What does the 2 button do?
The 2 button does all of the following:
-Jump
-Swim
-Answer a multiple-choice prompt
-Open the quick menu
-Select any item in a menu
-Enter passwords
Things that look like they need the 2 button but can be accomplished with other buttons:
-Progress through dialogue (1 Button)
-Selecting objects with Tippi (A Button)
-Ground pounding with Thudley (1 Button)
-Exiting free fall as Luigi (1 Button)
Each video is only a segment of the larger run and does not consider individual level high scores. This means that the 2 press count for the segment may not be the lowest 2 press count possible if considered in isolation. However, the 2 press count showcased in the video is the lowest 2 press count with the full game in mind. This also means that each video should link seamlessly to the next video chronologically (more or less). Because we are looking at the full game, we also count any save prompts that appear after the chapter is over.
If you have any further questions, post them in the comment section and Ill try to get back to you.

The craziest strats yet.
Video Notes:
This video is an improvement from my last video on Chapter 1-4 where I completed the chapter in 21x 2 Presses. You can find the video here: https://youtu.be/4RmH6Qw8hFE
Since then, three discoveries were made. Firstly, I realized that I could clear the second room without pressing 2. I accomplish this by using two damage boosts, one from the fire bar in the center of the room and another by the spawned megabite. I didnt use this strategy before because I didnt have the health needed to damage boost. This was solved with a planned level up (shown during setup). Do note that we still need the Life Shroom which takes 1x 2 Press but that will be shown in the 2-3 video.
The second discovery was in the red block puzzle room. I experimented with both hitting a block with Thoreau and jumping at the same time, but I didnt have good results. This was because Mario was throwing Thoreau too high. I then realized that Thoreaus height is in relationship to Marios speed. But if Marios speed is too low, he wont be able to land on the block. To finally accomplish this feat, I use skidding to both lower Marios speed and keep his momentum to land on the block while hitting the adjacent block with Thoreau. This is done twice to save 2x 2 presses.
The last, and most insane, discovery was during the Fracktail fight. Here, I use a double midair bounce to skip the second and third jumps needed to complete the fight. There are three variables that I needed to account for when doing this double midair bounce: Marios X position, Marios Y position, and the frame Mario lands on Fracktails antenna. The X position needs to be higher than -480 and the Y position needs to be higher than 1320 to damage Fracktail. Also, Mario must be in this position AFTER Fracktails body is completely flat for the hit to count. To achieve all these conditions, I manipulate the Frackles in the perfect position for the first midair bounce. For the second midair bounce, I use the home menu to lower the 3D meter to perfectly time 3D damage to perform the second midair bounce.
The rest of the strategies involve clever enemy positions and damage boosts that dont need further explanation.
This video features a modified view (at 11:54) to help better visualize the Fracktail fight. This is a zoomed-out perspective to better show what Mario is doing and how high he bounces in relation to Fracktail. This modified view also edits out the home menus for a more fluid viewing experience.
2 Presses:
1 - To jump back to the platform with the door in the room with the spiky tromps

3 - To select the key to open the second locked door
4 - To jump to the platform revealed by Tippi
5 - To select the key to open the third locked door
6 - To jump onto the spring past the third locked door

This route is no longer used due to the pathing in 1-4 being different, which makes the setup to get the life shroom no longer applicable in the form present in the video.
Normally a boring stage, we bring life back into 2-3!

This video is an improvement from my last video on Chapter 2-3 where I completed the chapter in 23x 2 Presses. You can find the video here: https://youtu.be/MkXp-2MPCKM
Since then, a new way to skip Boomer in 2-1 was found. This method uses a Shell Shock rather than a Life Shroom. This opens the opportunity to use the Life Shroom we obtain in 1-4 somewhere else. Here, we use the Life Shroom to get to the ruby vault without needing Slim. That way, we can first, get the ruby vault, and then get the Slim instead of the opposite order. Doing things in this order allows us to only climb the first two floors of 2-3 once, saving 4x 2 presses. As a note, the Shell Shock method for Boomer Skip takes one additional 2 press over the Life Shroom method, so overall, this new route only saves 3x 2 presses.
Once again, this chapter is very short if you know the solution to the chapter. Here, we can skip the entirety of the chapter by pre-emptively knowing the password to the 1 million ruby vault. One thing to note is that we cannot just grind the ruby rooms for 1 million rubies to pay off the debt. This is because theres a cap of 18000 rubies for each run-through of the VIP room. Each time, we need to press 2 to initiate a run-through, which easily negates any 2 press saves by beating the chapter this way.
2 Presses:
1 - To hit the prize block below the vase
2 - To jump onto the prize block
3 - To jump to the platform with the grandfather clock
4 - To jump to the second floor

New Record for the lowest number of 2 presses needed!
Video Notes:
Post Chapter 2 is fairly standard when it comes to strategies. The main feature here is the stylish moves. There are two stylish moves that Mario can pull off; a nice stylish move or a good stylish move. Nice stylish moves keep Mario in the air for only a second, but good stylish moves keep Mario in the air for two seconds. By using good stylish moves, we can keep Mario in the air long enough to combo off of the coconuts to cross the second pit and reach the pipe without needing any additional 2 presses. We also use this strategy in the reverse direction in no 2 presses at all.
2 Presses:
1 - To jump on the pipe to first-floor Flipside
2 - To cross the first pit
3 - To open the quick menu

And with the game complete, it is time for improvements and updates. And, oh boy, this one is a real big one.
Video Notes:
This video is an improvement from my last video on Chapter 1-2 where I completed the chapter in 21x 2 Presses. You can find the video here: https://youtu.be/ZpmKXCHtvvk
Since then, a new method of Green Bridge Skip was found and optimized. Originally, the only way to skip the Green Bridge was to do a Life Shroom Jump (LSJ) to double jump over the pit. This was inaccessible for the 2 Button Challenge (2BC) because it required getting a Life Shroom which could only be obtained by the shop at this point in the game. Buying an item from the shop takes at least 5x 2 presses, which on top of the 2x 2 presses to actually perform the LSJ and the presses needed to collect the 50 coins to buy the Life Shroom, cost more 2 presses than what the LSJ would save. However, a new GBS method found by mohoc which uses the shop clip to go out of bounds (OOB) and traverse to a weird plane allowed Mario to gain an abnormal amount of height that allows him to clear the gap in a single jump. Navigating to this plane took a few additional 2 presses as the doors and pipes leading to the plane would push Mario out of the OOB seam and fall to the death plane. However, I managed to shave 2x 2 presses from the known method by managing to stay OOB while going around the pipe outside and by also going around the seam of the third house to avoid needing to jump over the third door.
Chapter 1-2 doesnt feature many optimizations other than GBS as Mario doesnt have any pixls at this point and the level is mostly a vertical climb. However, a shortcut found by flipping into 3D at the starting area allows skipping most of this climbing.
This video features a pixl skip (Thoreau in this case). Thoreau is one of 5 pixls that are skippable in Super Paper Mario. This is because if we manage to beat the intended chapter without gaining the pixl, the game gives the pixl to you after the chapter is over in a short dialogue sequence.
2 Presses:
1 - To jump into the ladder block
2 - To jump to the ladder
3 - To jump onto the prize blocks
4 - To jump to the hard blocks above the prize blocks
5 - To jump to the top row of hard blocks
6 - To jump to the platform with the door past the spiny tromps
7 - To jump into the pipe leading to the background path to Reds House
8 - To jump to Reds staircase
9 - To jump to the second floor of Reds house
10 - To answer Reds question
11 - To jump into the pipe leading to the foreground area of Ye Old Town
12 - To jump up the small staircase leading to Ye Old Town
13 - To jump over the door of the second house
14 - To jump over the door of the forth house
15 - To jump over the large gap normally crossed by the green bridge
16 - To jump into the star block
17 - To save the game

![SMO A/BBC (Low-Cappy): Our First Power Moon - 3x A/B Presses [1x C Throw]
From: Start of Cascade Kingdom
Regional Coins: 15
The Super Mario Odyssey A/B Button Challenge (Low-Cappy) is where we go through the game while pressing A or B as few times as possible. The Low-Cappy addition also limits the amount of times we can throw Cappy. Note that A/B Presses are prioritized, meaning we will throw Cappy 100 times to save 1 A/B Presses, but not press A/B 100 times to save one Cappy Throw.
Other Rules:
You must play single player only, with no assist mode. You also must play with the recommended control scheme. (Two vertical joycons)
Q: What is a C Throw
A: A C Throw is short for Cappy Throw. We count a Cappy Throw every time we throw Cappy at something, or have to stay in the air for a Cap Jump.
Q: Why A/B Presses?
A: In Mario Odyssey, the jump button is assigned to both A and B, so we use the notation, A/B Presses to account for both buttons at once.
Q: Are there half a presses in this game xdxd
A: Yeah, like Mario 64, a half a press is when you hold A from a previous a press that has not been shown in the video. There are various uses for a half a press that will be demonstrated later.
Q: What does From: mean?
A: Because in Odyssey you dont leave the level when you collect a Power Moon, each video will start where the previous video ended (or the previous video in the route). To avoid confusion, I always put the starting location or moon in the description.
