Sig 1909 Antoinette RC Kit Build and Fly
In this video I will take the Sig 1909 Antoinette RC kit and build and fly the completed model.
The 1909 Antoinette was a French designed and built aircraft that was a early pioneer in those early days of flight. The Antoinette is a very attractive airplane that makes for an interesting RC model airplane.
The Sig Antoinette is a three channel model using throttle, elevator and rudder for control. The kit is extremely well designed with full size plans and a detailed photo illustrated construction manual. Due to the unique construction methods for the Antoinette it is vital that you follow the construction manual guidance to the letter.
The original Antoinette kit was produced in 2002. I constructed my kit in July 2023. I used an outrunner motor and a two cell lipo battery for power. This resulted in some modifications to the original design, all covered in the video. The Sig kit is top quality, but for intermediate to experienced builders.
You can use whatever radio components you wish, best to work towards light and small. I used an E-flite Park 370 brushless motor, Castle Talon 25 ESC, two cell lipo and Hitec HS-40 servos. Note also I used only about 3 degrees of down thrust. The original geared brushed motor had a lot more, likely for the extremely slow flight speeds.
The test flight of the Antoinette went fine. At first I flew the model a bit too fast which resulted in wing flex. Once I slowed down the wings moved a lot less and the model handled very well. I had a nice first landing.
