Hi, this is Scott with etrailer, and today we're taking a look at installing our Hopkins seven and four pole connector with bracket on our 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. Our connector we have on our Colorado today is going to be a good option for someone that wants to get their seven-pole and their four-pole wiring, so they can pull a different couple types of trailers. Maybe you have a utility trailer and maybe you have a bigger trailer that has trailer brakes. This is going to be a great option for you. Now this is going to come in a couple different ways that you can set this up. Now this is going to come with a bracket, so if you don't have a factory cutout, you can install it with the bracket and you'll be set up with the same nice setup as this.
Now with ours, ours did not have our factory plug underneath, but we did have the wiring harness under there. So this is going to come with a wiring harness that you actually wire into that and you end up with your plug and some extra line and it's going to allow you to plug right into the back of this and have you all set up. So at the end of the day, this is a really good option if you don't have the plugin in there on your wiring harness. This is going to get you all set up. We'd be glad to help you out. Now, as far as installation goes, this one's pretty straightforward. You're going to be splicing some wires, but other than that, it's no real big deal. But if you're getting a whole setup done, maybe you're getting a hitch and some other things done and you really don't have time to do it yourself, you can always take a look at our installer locator and get something done for you locally. To start our installation, we're underneath our truck and we're going to want to look for a wiring harness. Now, a lot of times with these, you're going to have a plug on the end of this and you'll be able to plug it right into a connector you put here. With ours, we have all these wires that are taped off. So what we're going to need to do is get a wiring harness hooked to this. So to make this a little bit easier, we are going to have this tied off to our frame in a couple of different spots.
I'm just going to get this to pop out. And with that down, it's going to give me a little more room to work. And what I'll do now is I'm going to pull back some of this wire loom that we have on here. And I'm going to go ahead and trim off all of our ends and I'll get these stripped off and we'll make our connections. Now to get our wiring harness all prepped, what I did is I went ahead and stripped off all of my wires and I got my butt connectors installed. Now I didn't use the ones in the kit. I went ahead and upgraded these to heat shrink butt connectors. These are going to give us a good seal and it's going to help our wiring harness last for a long time because it doesn't let it get any water or corrosion in there. So what we're going to do is we have our wires up here on our vehicle side that we have all stripped off as well. Now keep in mind when you hook this up, you're not going to be going color for color on these. So what I'll do is we're going to start out with, we're going to go from white from our harness to our black on our vehicle side. And I'll go ahead and crimp these together. Now all these are going to crimp together the same way. It's going to be the same process for all of these wires, but it just takes a little bit of time to get them all. So what I'll do is I'll crimp this one in place and I'll go ahead and jump ahead and get all these connected. And we'll show you the correct sequence of the way that we get these hooked up between our harness and our vehicle. I made all of our connections and I'll go over what we have connected here. Now we went ahead and we've got our white wire out of our harness side going to our vehicle side that is white to black. We went green to green. We have blue to blue. We went from red to the yellow wire on our vehicle harness. We went with the yellow wire to the gray wire out of our vehicl
