This Sega Menacer commercial takes me back to one of Sega's more ambitious swings that just didn't land. Sega announced this light gun at CES in May 1992 as a direct response to Nintendo's Super Scope, releasing it with a six game pack-in cartridge before bundling it with T2 The Arcade Game by that December. The weird part is Sega actually outsold Nintendo during the 1992 Christmas season thanks partly to this thing, so it genuinely had a moment of real success right out of the gate. The problem was long term support, since only three games total ever ended up working with the Menacer, T2 being the best of the bunch since it let you play co-op with a friend using a normal controller alongside the gun. Critics at the time were pretty blunt about it too, mostly telling people to skip it entirely unless they were diehard fans of target shooting games specifically. It ended up going down as one of those classic cases of a cool idea that never got the game library needed to back it up. Did you ever own one of these or did the Super Scope win you over instead?
