What is deep listening, and how is it different from spiritual seeking?

Rupert says: ‘Seeking is the prelude to deep listening. This “great search” takes place on the horizontal line of time – but deep listening is a plunge into the vertical dimension of being. Most of us stop searching in the conventional world and start seeking in the spiritual world – but it’s still a search.

‘But sooner or later that search brings itself to an end – we step off the line of time, sink into this vertical dimension of being, and stand in eternity. That’s deep listening, or the Pathless Path.’

$Questioning Your Personal Identity How can enquiring into your sense of {identity} undermine the [conditioning] that gives rise to feelings of inferiority or superiority towards others? Rupert says: ‘If you enquire deeply into yourself and someone else, you see there’s no hierarchy. That’s your experience. But don’t just understand it intellectually – feel it. If you stay with this experiential answer to your question, it will undermine the relatively superficial conditioning you have.’ ‘All our ideas about being better or worse than others are superficial compared to the true knowledge we have of our self and of others. One is not better than the other, one is not more valuable. There is no hierarchy. This understanding should be the foundation of all our relationships.
