Seasons in the Sun - David Miller [flugelhorn]
"Seasons in the Sun" is a song with an interesting history. The original song actually predates the 1974 pop hit by an entire decade, when Jacques Brel penned and recorded the tune (then called, "Le Moribond") in 1961. Beginning as a French-language song, it would eventually be covered by such groups as, The Kingston Trio, The Beach Boys, Ray Conniff, The Coachmen, The Fortunes, Nirvana, and others. But it seems it's the 1974 hit by Terry Jacks that people remember most. It's certainly the version I heard and liked as a child 40 years ago! So here is my version, in remembrance of the song I heard so often as a 10 year old in the spring and summer of 1974. I loved the melody back then and even today it still has special meaning. I hope you enjoy it!

As soon as I heard this awesome melody, I knew I had to record it! The melody is based on the Mixolydian Mode, which happens to be probably my favorite scale to improvise with. I was planning on doing either a trumpet or flugelhorn cover of this tune later this year (when Im back to playing on a normal schedule) but this tune has been stuck in my head all day, so I thought Id do a keyboard version.
