Returning from a trip to Oregon, I spent Friday night in Klamath Falls, OR, about 20 miles north of the California border. As I was leaving Saturday morning, I decided to stop by the Amtrak depot to see if I could catch the northbound Amtrak Coast Starlight scheduled to stop a little after 8am. As I was waiting, a short southbound BNSF manifest pulled through the UP yard on its way to the BNSF yard south of town. Motive power included a GP 38 on the point followed by a GP 39.
The Coast Starlight pulled in about 20 minutes late. It was already to leave after its scheduled 10 minute stop when a southbound UP stack train pulled into the yard lead by an ES45AC with an ES44AC helper. The main line out of town is single tracked so Amtrak had to wait 15 minutes for the containers to clear before it could depart. Enjoy the action.
