I finally had an opportunity to railfan the stretch of UP trackage between Sparks and Fernley NV. By shear luck I passed an eastbound manifest as I merged onto eastbound Interstate 80. The manifest train was waiting to leave the yard in Sparks with two EMD units on the point and one EMD mid-train. I caught it off Exit 28 at the Wild Horse Canyon Road and again at exit 40, the Canal Road crossing.
Motive Power: EMD 9012 (SD70AH) on the point with EMD 8780 (EMD SD70ACe) behind. EMD 7030 (ACC4460CW) 109 cards behind at mid-train. Total length was 185 cars.
