The Rio Grande Southern was once a narrow gauge railroad that connected the towns of Durango with Telluride and Ridgway, Colorado. Like the much larger D&RGW, the RGS gained its following for its scenery, its rustic charm, and the way it operated with its equipment, including the, "Galloping Goose," railcars. The RGS would be wholly abandoned in the early 1950s, with few remnants of the line intact.
In August 2021, with help from Trains Magazine, some of the magic was rekindled. 4-6-0 Ten-Wheeler No. 20, owned by the Colorado Railroad Museum, was brought down to the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad for a photo charter event out of Antonito, CO. Along with the string of vintage freight cars, K-27 2-8-2 463 was relettered and renumbered as RGS 455 for the doubleheader. As the 20's first run away from its home rails in Golden, the doubleheader through Colorado and New Mexico's remote wilderness felt like going back in time, with some locations bearing uncanny resemblances...

The Walkersville Southern Railroad operates on four miles of former Pennsylvania Railroad tracks from Walkersville, MD through the Monocacy River Valley towards Frederick. The all volunteer operation runs regularly on weekends from May to October plus specials. The railroad uses a variety of diesel switchers, with a number of GE 45-tonners and PRR 44 tonners. This tourist railroad has expanded operation considerably in the 30+ years active as a tourist railroad.
For a few weekends each year, steam operates the regular trips and photo specials. The locomotive brought in is from the Gramlings, with one of their traveling tank engines trucked in. Jeddo Coal Company 0-4-0T 85 has been featured for several years.

The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway operates scenic tourist trains along the Toccoa River on the former Marietta & North Georgia Railroad. These 26-mile trips run north from Blue Ridge, GA on what is today the Georgia Northeastern Railroad. With great scenic river views and an extended layover at the Tennessee border towns of McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN, its an excellent day outing.
