In the final instalment of exploring the Reading and Northern, we'll explore Pennsylvania's Lehigh Gorge near Jim Thorpe. Featured, are Reading and Northern's EMD F9A & F7B units in action, as they power the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway out of Jim Thorpe, PA. Normal power on the LGSR consists of various freight power, so seeing the F Units out and about was a very nice treat!
These units are newer to the Reading and Northern fleet, and are used on various holidays and special occasions on the system. Before being bought by the R&N, the duo was owned by Norfolk Southern, and was used for their executive and officer car trains.
Several runs a day of the LGSR are made, creating many possibilities to see the train in various parts of the Lehigh Gorge. Speeds really pick up towards the middle part of the ride, creating some really awesome roll-bys!
