I didn't drive through the 3rd ring cause I don't have OCD. First time driving out here and just getting a feel for the area. Sketchy roam cause it would have been a long walk if something went wrong. The amount of total land I could probably explore out here seems crazy but I'll mess around and get lost driving the car if I don't get a better mental picture of the layout first. I halfway had a plan but didn't stick to it so I was basically roaming aimlessly and there was a lot of cool places I missed. Because I'm sitting in the car the whole time I would guess that actually standing outside in the open would further increase my reception to allow even more roaming. This was also a heat test on the O3 since it was stupid hot outside.. so now I know that using the heat sink and fan setup I have keeps the O3 happy enough while recording at max power on real hot days. As for the 1.3G audio, it may as well have been interchangeable with the audio in this video which comes from a runcam inside the truck. It never broke up.
A place like this is really ideal for any FPV system it seems. Something about the lack of objects surrounding the goggles (aside from the car), the wide open fields and paths, and how there were a lot of breaks in the trees and brush providing some level of long range visibility. The only downside is the hilly nature of it making it so eventually a lot of Earth will be in the LOS instead of just trees. I could tell turning the truck around could change the signal a bit so I think extending the antenna a few inches further would be a good idea. If I could stick to the paths then testing my other DJI setup would be cool to see how the LHCP/RHCP combo works out there.
Maybe the best thing to do is to pull up google maps and get an overhead satellite view of the area so you can plan out where you'd mainly want to drive. Then you can figure out the best location to park or stand where you can easily point your patches where you'll be driving.
