On President's Day, 2014, I drove an hour from my home to Pinole and Hercules, CA, along San Pablo Bay to shoot Amtrak California Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains. Even the Coast Starlight showed up running only ten minutes late.
The railroad directions are confusing here. The Capitol Corridor trains travel East (Sacramento) to West (Oakland/San Jose) according to the schedule. The San Joaquin's, running in the same direction past the shooting location, are traveling North (Oakland) to South (Bakersfield). The Coast Starlight also travels North-South but that direction is physically opposite that of the San Joaquin's. You can see that in the second shot where two southbound trains pass going in opposite directions.
