This nesting was on a faraway tree, high in the mid canopy. Two chicks were at home in the nest hole. But feeding was infrequent; in a span of a 2 hour wait, the parents returned only twice to feed.
These chicks fledged a day after this video was shot.
Purple-winged Rollers are also known as Celebes Roller, Sulawesi Roller and Temminck's Roller. They are closely related to the Indochinese Roller.
Their overall plumage of dark purple is capped by a bright neon blue crown. Upperparts are of a dull dark olive shade. There is no sexual dimorphism in this species.
Purple-winged Rollers are endemic to Sulawesi & the surrounding islands. Their natural habitat comprise lowland forests.
