A few adult Bronze-winged Jacanas were out foraging in a deep waterway that ran parallel to a narrow path. They were calling raucously to each other while foraging.
Jacanas are able to "walk on water" because they possess disproportionately long toes that help distribute their weight over a large area, thus enabling them to walk on floating vegetation. In this video, one could be seen walking on water lily pads.
An interesting fact about the jacanas' lifestyle is that there seemed to be a gender role reversal: it is the female who maintains a harem of males, among whom one male will incubate and bring up the chicks.
Bronze-winged Jacanas are residents of the Indian subcontinent and South-east Asia.
