I chanced upon a small flock of this species while birding at a forest edge. They were out foraging on berries and were resting after their meal.
It was a pleasure to meet a dove that looked so different. The Sultan's Cuckoo-dove is relatively large but slim, with a long tail that stretches its length to an average of 15 inches (35 cm). It has pale brown underparts with fine barrings, while its upperparts are rufous brown.
Also known as the Sulawesi Brown Cuckoo-dove, this bird is found in Sulawesi and Western New Guinea.
