Welcome back to the channel, realrecord! Nice performance in the first game too, after i thought they fell behind in Step 1. The money lead was definitely mine at that point, but i blew it by buying both 21 & 29 shortly before Step 3.
Should've realized that with building being rather cheap on this map , i would need a 5-capacity plant going into Step 3 to win; you could theoretically reach 18 cities with a 4-7-7 setup, but that almost never wins since 7-cap plants tend to be expensive & inefficient as hell. 20 was absolutely the right decision for me even if it gave better plants to the players below me, but 29 was the big mistake. If i passed on 29 and stayed low in the turn order, i could've gotten a 6-cap plant with cheap resources...would've put me in a similar position to realrecord (i.e. not needing a 7-cap to reach 18).
The 2nd game had even more going on, with me doing very well in Step 1 again before the game got wild. Absolutely no regrets paying a couple extra bucks for the 16 instead of going for the 20, and that's a play i never would've thought of the last time i was on BSW. My bid on 29 was probably questionable again, though, since a bigger plant would most likely come afterward and i could buy 24 or 28 at worst.
Coal started to get cheap later in the game, which got amitss back in the hunt. Everyone except poor teokop seemed to have a chance at the end, and this was one of the most down-to-the-wire finishes we've had yet on here! Let's just say plenty of mistakes were made all around...
