I want to make a “farewell tour” series of my Pokémon Scarlet and Violet teams, but, despite the Pokémon Champions release being so near, I don’t know when it actually is, so I can’t plan ahead for it. The first major event will be on May 1st with signups a week prior, so that is the latest possible time of its release, but I cannot be sure if I will have three sessions’ worth of Scarlet and Violet battle videos or just two. (For all I know, Pokémon Champions will be here right when April begins!)
For now though, I will assume three, so here is one last session for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet using the Jumpluff Team. The farewell tour series will be planned for April.
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: ゆうと (Yuuto)
Battle Court: Medali (Fortune Eatery)
Music: Arven
My Pokémon: Dandrea (Jumpluff), Alfred (Indeedee) (Male), Atlas (Slither Wing)
Opponent’s Pokémon: ゴルーグ (Golurk), ハラバリー (Bellibolt), ラフレシア (Vileplume)
Jumpluff is not much of an attacker, so even though I had a type advantage, I had a strategic disadvantage here: my opponent played a bunch of unconventional Pokémon too, but their Golurk strategy was just as unconventional, using Trick to give my Jumpluff an Assault Vest and preventing me from attacking. (Substitute would’ve blocked it, and I have Substitute on there in part for strategies like this, but I didn’t expect a Golurk to open with it.) It is an interesting strategy: Stealth Rock, then Curse to remove Golurk from the battle. These leads seem to be more common with Japanese-language players than other languages, and here is an example from a Pokémon I didn’t expect to be used for that purpose.
I suppose they did know when I would be switching out, and their team seemed to be focused on manipulating switch-outs to get free turns.
This is also the first Vileplume I’ve faced with Effect Spore rather than Chlorophyll. Even my own Vileplume, which I used in Sword and Shield, used Chlorophyll. (Unless I forgot about a Vileplume I’ve seen before with Effect Spore). But that does mean she won’t be outrunning either Slither Wing or Indeedee, both of whom have a type advantage and CAN attack with those types. Slither Wing would be slowed down dramatically by Strength Sap (a move that can really gain the upper hand) if used against the right opponents—I’ve proven that last generation with Cursola—but I had one last trick up my sleeve. Had they found a way around it though, I think I was finished. Jumpluff is still in reserve and at full HP, but she would be uncapable of battling at all here.
