No April Fools video this year—I don’t have any space in my schedule for one this time, with the release of Pokémon Champions shortly afterwards and me doing this video series for the days prior to its release. The Mario Galaxy Movie also comes out today; for those of you who plan to see it or have already seen it, I hope you like it. I plan to see it too.
Before I completed even the Lokix Team, I had my eyes on using Wugtrio because if Dugtrio is barely even used despite having Arena Trap due to low stats (I mean the official games’ Ranked battles, not Pokémon Showdown), Wugtrio would not stand a chance. I figured that if I were to use Wugtrio online, it would not only be on a team, it should headline it too, and so once I decided on a Wugtrio strategy (nothing too complex like with Cramorant a generation prior), the Wugtrio Team was devised.

By this point, the meta was settling, and one Pokémon gave me more problems than anything else: Amoonguss. It can withstand nearly anything and strike back with Spore, putting your Pokémon out of commission for the next few turns as your opponent’s Pokémon gang up on the other ones. This team has multiple answers to that: Electrode laying Electric Terrain to stop Spore from having any effect, Scovillain as a Grass-type, and Medicham having Fake Out to stop that for at least a turn. Spiritomb also used to have Taunt but doesn’t have the Speed outside of Trick Room to stop Amoonguss from using Spore.
Originally, Scovillain was also supposed to be a support Pokémon, but one that could rocket ahead of the others thanks to Focus Sash and lay down Spicy Extract or Will-O-Wisp. While Will-O-Wisp remains in her moveset, I found myself with trouble with Spicy Extract, as it tended to result in Scovillain getting knocked out, followed by the target of Spicy Extract getting knocked out—this strategy would’ve required the opponent stay idle for a turn, which they weren’t going to do.
I had originally thought about breeding Bergmite in Scarlet, then importing one into Legends: Arceus via HOME and evolving it there, but I decided to just train a Hisuian Avalugg I had available in HOME already as it was easier. I did make an attempt to find an Alpha Pokémon, as Hisuian Avalugg are far smaller than their modern-day Kalosian counterparts, but I was not successful, and this is a run-of-the-mill, medium-sized Hisuian Avalugg. I would later take Pokémon into other games and back solely to evolve them.
I mentioned in the video itself that Spiritomb had Taunt instead of Pain Split in the past: he also used to have Substitute for a brief time in between. This proved even more ineffective as Spiritomb had a hard time keeping the substitute doll intact.
