There are a couple of Pokémon I keep in Pokémon Champions I do not use in battle, at least not yet: Dragapult and Jolteon. I have them with a +Speed Nature and all stat points cranked up to their maximum for both of them. They are used as benchmarks: if I have a strategy revolving around Speed boosts, like Choice Scarf or Tailwind, I need to know how fast the Pokémon I’m training will be in order to outrun them, at least when unboosted. (And if boosted, I’ll know how far I’ll ned to take my Pokémon to still maintain the advantage.)
Dragapult is the fastest Pokémon available so far in Pokémon Champions, not counting Mega Evolutions, at a base Speed of 142. Jolteon is the next major benchmark for me, at a base Speed of 130. There are other Pokémon with Speeds faster or in between, like Mega Aerodactyl (150, faster than Dragapult) and Mega Manectric (135, equal to Koraidon, Miraidon, and Flutter Mane), but it’s way harder to use them as references.

Sneasler likely had a White Herb, as the Focus Sash was on Whimsicott instead. I should’ve remembered something like Encore on Whimsicott though, but I wasn’t sure whom they were going to use Fake Out on.
This time, this Charizard Mega Evolved into Mega Charizard X rather than Y. Predicting Mega Y, I readied Weather Ball on Rosalyn (Roserade) to knock out Venusaur thinking it’d be 100 power and Fire-type (boosted by the sun), but, of course, Mega Charizard X has Tough Claws, not Drought, and Venusaur set the harsh sunlight on his own.
How did Mega Charizard X move ahead of Rigel (Manectric)? Tailwind petered out. What did I miss?

This battle made me rethink how I’m supposed to respond to Charizard Mega Evolving into Mega Charizard Y and setting harsh sunlight, because switching into Lamar (Aurorus) sets snow, but the Mega Evolution happens after the switch-in, so the weather becomes harsh sunlight anyway. I did still get in an Overheat attack onto Venusaur anyway though, which makes the situation more manageable because I have Pokémon on this team who can outrun Mega Charizard Y, but not Venusaur with doubled Speed.
Seems my one option is to let them Mega Evolve, then switch in to ensure the harsh sunlight goes away.
My opponent’s Incineroar was named after Wolfe Glick, current top Pokémon battler and 5-time World Champion. He is associated with Incineroar and is responsible for its popularity in battle.

Opponent’s Pokémon: Hatterene, Sneasler, Torkoal, Drampa
Hatterene and Sneasler do not sound like they should go together at all, as Sneasler is designed for blinding Speed (especiall after Unburden kicks in) while Hatterene is ultra-slow and sets Trick Room. In most circumstances though, Sneasler can use Fake Out to stop anyone trying to prevent Hatterene from using Trick Room, and Sneasler is likely protected via Focus Sash, though I can’t help but wonder if there may be Fake Out users more suited for a Trick Room strategy.
And, of course, Torkoal’s presence in this battle shows that harsh sunlight would turn up here too.
This Drampa has Berserk, not Cloud Nine. Though Cloud Nine would be a great Ability to have in this format, what with weather conditions found on most teams (including mine).
I should’ve selected Earth Power for Torkoal and Thunderbolt for Drampa, as the harsh sunlight drops Blizzard’s accuracy to 50%.

I thought Overheat would be enough to knock out that Ninetales—it would have been crucial on the first turn, as Mac (Mudsdale) is ready to fight and knock out Ninetales (maybe not Primarina though). Good to know that harsh sunlight is necessary for that. Well, that and I thought they’d go for Aurora Veil immediately.
Tiamat is a Mesopotamian goddess. Not sure why a male Charizard would be named that though. I don’t know what Ninetales’ nickname of “Marzanna” refers to.
