Dark is often considered one of the best Types in Pokémon, partially thanks to Incineroar's competitive success. Excelling in offense, defence and utility, there was seemingly nothing which the Dark Type could not do.
However, it didn't start out this way. In fact, Dark originally had one of the most contradictory designs out of all Types, and was arguably one of the overall worst Types in the game back when it first debuted.
So let's explore the Dark Type's evolution, and understand how it gradually established a design identity and eventually achieved the success it enjoys today.
