Movie Version vs. Pop Version part 3 of 4
In the 1986 animated film, "An American Tail," a family of immigrant mice head for the USA to start a new life but their oldest son Fievel (voiced by Philip Glasser) gets separated from them in the process. There's one poignant scene in the movie where Fievel looks up at the night sky and sings this song, while not that far away his sister Tanya (singing voice by Betsy Cathcart) does the same. This version of "Somewhere Out There" is raw and pure, as well as both comforting and heartbreaking, with some lovely orchestral accompaniment by the London Symphony Orchestra; if you listen closely, you can hear familiar woodwind riffs that composer James Horner likes to use often, just like in the 1985 movie, "Cocoon."
