A collaboration between two British acts, Colourbox and A.R. Kane, this awesome track blew me away the first time I heard it and consequently became one of my favorite songs of 1987. "Pump Up The Volume" became a ground-breaking hit that brought extensive music sampling and further development of British house music into the mainstream, going to #1 on the UK Pop chart and in countries like Canada, Italy, Netherlands, and New Zealand. In the USA, the song went to #1 on the Dance charts and crossed over to Billboard's Hot 100 chart, peaking at #13 in 1988. There's a noticeable difference between the UK and USA single versions, particularly in the intro, where a female DJ replaces the male vocal sample used in the UK single, plus some slight variations in the samples used.
