The first time I heard this song on the radio, it was the album version, and I thought it was just an okay song. The single version, however, was a remix, with more prominent and softer drums, additional finger snaps, and lots of lovely synthesizer and percussion embellishments throughout the song that I really liked, making the single a must-buy for me. "Let's Wait Awhile" went to #2 on both Billboard's Hot 100 chart and Adult Contemporary chart in 1987 and became a #1 song on the R&B chart. The song also did well in the UK, going to #3 on the UK Pop chart.
