When we are concerned about a health issue it's important to turn to a professional for evidence-based help, but research from Susannah Fox (former Chief Technology Officer at US Department of Health and Human Services) shows that about a quarter of people also turn to someone who's been through the same thing, and that group often gets uniquely useful, up-to-date information.
