Paul Boyd Talks Horror-Comedy 'Scared to Death'

I chatted with Scottish filmmaker Paul Boyd, known for 'I, Challenger' and 'We Are Gathered Here Today', 'Scared to Death' brings together a mix of horror icons and fresh faces. The cast includes Lin Shaye, famous for the 'Insidious' series, and Bill Moseley of 'The Devil’s Rejects' and 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2'. They are joined by Olivier Paris from, 'The Wrong Tutor', Victoria Konefal of 'Days of Our Lives', B. J. Minor known for, 'Grey’s Anatomy', Jade Chynoweth from, 'The Last Ship', and Rae Dawn Chong of, 'The Color Purple'. Also appearing are Lucinda Jenney from Practical Magic and rock frontman Kurt Deimer, who makes a memorable impression as the character known as The Grog.

'Scared to Death' will rollout across North America through Atlas Distribution Company beginning Friday the 13th of March, 2026. Screenings are planned in major markets including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, Austin, San Diego, Houston, San Antonio, Miami, Tampa, Boston, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, Nashville, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Cleveland and additional cities.

Inspired loosely by real-world events, 'Scared to Death' aims to deliver the kind of wild ride associated with genre landmarks such as 'The Exorcist', 'Jaws', 'The Amityville Horror' and 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' while channeling the irreverent spirit of horror-comedies like 'Young Frankenstein', 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Slither'.

The ensemble cast also features Matt Carmody, Joline Towers, Alicia Tomasko and Mair Flores. Behind the camera Boyd is joined by producers Eric Barrett and Todd Slater. Executive producers include Deimer, Peter Tochet, Shaye and cinematographer Steven Poster, who also serves as director of photography. Casting is by Lindsay Chag, editing by Ed Shiers, music by Misha Segal and production design by Scott Campbell. The film also features original songs by Kurt Deimer.

'Scared to Death' comes to theaters on Friday the 13th of March, 2026, from Atlas Distribution Company.

That instinct proved correct, because with House of David, Gunn and his collaborators aren’t just retelling a biblical story, they’re shaping an experience that’s as spiritually complex as it is dramatically engaging. After season one drew more than 40 million viewers worldwide, the series returns not with a quiet continuation but with a sweeping escalation. All episodes drop at once, inviting viewers to fully immerse themselves in a narrative where faith, politics and destiny collide at a pivotal moment in Ancient Israel’s history. Season Two picks up as the kingdom teeters on the edge of collapse. King Saul’s grip is slipping, and into that vacuum steps David, still a shepherd at heart but increasingly shaped by war, loyalty and divine calling. What House of David attempts and succeeds at, is finding that middle ground where emotional truth enhances rather than undermines the biblical account. That challenge becomes even more layered when you consider the dual theological lenses the show operates within. The story of David is foundational to both Judaism and Christianity, but the interpretations, emphases and implications differ. Gunn emphasized that the creative team is deeply aware of this tension and had theological advisors to help guide the narrative from both faiths. Rather than flatten those differences, the series tries to respect them, presenting a narrative that resonates across traditions while still allowing space for distinct readings. It’s not about resolving theological debates but about honoring the weight of it. The cast carries that ambition with remarkable gravity. Michael Iskander continues to shape David as both vulnerable and formidable, capturing the internal conflict that defines the character. Ali Suliman’s Saul is increasingly tragic, a king unraveling under the pressure of lost favor and fading authority. Ayelet Zurer and Stephen Lang round out a cast that understands the scale of the story they’re telling—not just in spectacle but in spiritual consequence. Looking ahead, Gunn hinted at a long-term vision that extends well beyond this season.
