The King got tricked into passing a decree that said people could only pray to him and no other god. Daniel disobeyed the King's order and kept praying 3 times a day to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. The King's order could not be reversed by law and the King loved Daniel. So Daniel was thrown into the Lion's Den and the King fasted and prayed all night hoping Daniel's God would deliver him. And He did.
