Part-2 of the Heathkit AR-3 repairs . I call this a repair and not a restoration because there are many more things usually done in a restoration such as removing lots of parts and painting the chassis with copper color paint etc. AS I completed part-1 with the controls all lubricated and working freely the AR_3 was turned on and there was the local AM broadcast station coming in weakly . Knowing the AR-3 to be a very sensitive receiver it was late evening I attached a 6 foot piece of hookup wire laying on the work bench to the antenna terminal and was able to tune in many AM broadcast stations all over the country . I was surprised at this because I thought there would be a lot more repairs before the AR-3 would be receiving anything . Heathkit did an amazing job with the AR-3 I really like it . This video is about washing the AR-3 and installing a " redundant ground system" to repair poor grounding in the chassis due to the unit sitting for so many years possibly in a basement or garage also installed today were new grommets and dial light bulbs the bulbs used were type 1847 the AR-3 manual calls for type 47 the 1847 bulbs are the heavy duty 47 commercial bulbs and have a much longer life . There is that ticking or clicking in the background on this video just like the part -1 video since this is about 20 feet from the workbench where I made the first video I suspect that noise is in the camera I am using I will try a different camera for the Part-3 video to see if this helps I do not think the noise is loud enough to be disruptive but I will try another camera to see if it is in the camera I used .
