Assembling the QCX+ 40 meter CW tranceiver I was having trouble tinning the small number 28 enamelled wire so I devised a simple way to hold the toroids while I did this... that is after I dropped one and saw it split in two pieces at my feet ! The cardbosrd I used for the holder is the very common brown corrugated type used in common boxes for shipping and is about 1/8th inch thick . This worked so well that I made this short video . I usually just heat this type of wire right at the end and apply solder on the tip of the
soldering iron or soldering pencil however I found that scraping this type wire
just once or twice with a sharp knife did the trick much faster and easier .
I also found that using a Bigger soldering iron with more heat did the job better as well I used a Weller soldering iron setup type WTCPN with a
750 degree F larger tip about 3/16ths inches wide . 73 Bob
