February 11, 2016 - Ovechkin has had the number of several opponents over the years. Teams such as the Thrashers, Canadiens, Maple Leafs, and Blues have all felt the wrath of Ovi a little extra compared to most teams at various points in his career. But perhaps no team struggled to stop the Great 8 quite as much as the Minnesota Wild in the late 2010s. After not winning in Minnesota in his first nine seasons, Ovechkin led the Caps to their first win in St. Paul with a two-goal performance - youtu.be/DBQX017R95I. That win kicked off a stretch of dominance unlike any other of his career. From 2015 to 2020, Ovechkin scored a ridiculous 13 goals and 22 points in just 9 games against the Wild, with most of the damage coming on the road (6 Games - 11 Goals - 17 Points). The Great 8's second trip to the State of Hockey in that stretch saw him produce a second-period hat trick with the league lead in goals on the line. Ovechkin's hat trick proved to be the last time the goal-scoring lead would change ownership for the season, as Ovechkin would continue to lead to hold the number one spot throughout the rest of the year on his way to his sixth Rocket Richard Trophy.
