November 20, 2014 - After a year filled with criticisms about his defensive play, the 2014-15 season presented a new opportunity for Alex Ovechkin. With upgrades on defense and the new leadership of defensive-minded veteran coach Barry Trotz, the Great 8 set out to prove the critics wrong. While the first 18 games of the season had been very average for Ovechkin with 8 goals and 16 points so far, the process was there, and it was only a matter of time before the pucks started hitting the back of the net. Sporting a Mo-vember mustache, Ovechkin made his presence felt in Colorado with his signature blend of speed and physicality while showing an increased effort in the defensive end. With the game tied 2-2 in the final six minutes of regulation, Ovechkin finally broke through with a brilliant effort, overpowering Colorado's Jan Hejda with a sick deke before beating Reto Berra to the rebound to score what would end up being the deciding goal.
