In 1989, East and West Germans came together to mark the end of the year. More than seven weeks after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Berliners from both sides gathered on New Year’s Eve, sharing a moment that pointed towards reunification. The evening marked the close of the Cold War period in Germany and the beginning of a new chapter for the country.
