In May 1966, John Surtees returned to racing with Ferrari following recovery from a motorcycle accident that had sidelined him earlier in the year. As Formula One entered the three-litre era, his comeback marked both a personal recovery and a broader moment of transition in the sport; despite missing the opening rounds, Surtees went on to win twice during the season and finished second in the World Championship, establishing himself as Ferrari’s leading driver and one of the key figures of Formula One’s new regulatory age.
