First released on 12 inch single (backed with “Lonesome Tonight”), this version appeared on an early compilation album from New Order, “Substance” in 1987. Prior to this album, New Oder” had released four others, all of which charted in the UK. By the end of 1986, New Order had racked up 12 UK hit singles, many of which made the US Dance Chart. The band had less success on the Hot-100.
“Thieves Like Us” was also featured in the John Hughes’ film, “Pretty In Pink”, starring Molly Ringwald, John Cryer and James Spader. The soundtrack featured another track by the band, “Shell-Shock”, which reached #28 when released a s a single in the UK. “Shell-Shock” was included as a track on the soundtrack album of “Pretty In Pink” but “Thieves Like Us” was not.
