On December 24, 2011, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson executed what is widely considered one of the most athletic and unforgettable touchdowns in NFL history. Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton threw a short, 19-yard pass to Simpson on a quick out-route. Simpson caught the ball near the 5-yard line and sprinted toward the left pylon. As Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington squared up at the 2-yard line to make a goal-line tackle, Simpson chose not to lower his shoulder or try to juke. Instead, he launched himself forward off both feet.
Using Washington's shoulders slightly to aid his momentum, Simpson soared completely over the standing defender's head. He executed a full, airborne 360-degree front flip mid-air. Simpson rotated perfectly through the air and stuck the landing cleanly on both feet inside the end zone. Upon landing the acrobatics, Simpson immediately extended his arms outward like an Olympic gymnast sticking a gold-medal dismount before celebrating with his teammates. The television broadcast color commentators famously joked that even a strict "Russian judge" would have given Simpson a perfect 10.0 for sticking the landing.
