Long weekend break driving and camping some of the North Coast 500 route.
We had no real plans or itinerary, just camping gear and we would let the weather decide where we visited
It also showed that we did not need to spend a fortune when travelling the North Coast 500 with the biggest expense being fuel as you do cover a long distance and on average we were driving 3-4 hours most days.
However if you are willing to use a tent, the average cost of the campsites for the two of us was £12-£18 per night all with good facilities and some amazing restaurants to try as well.
We started from the little village of Aboyne and travelled anti-clockwise up and around the top of the Cairngorms heading across to the West Coast to stay around the Sutherland and Assynt area.
Then we headed south finishing in Kenmore with an amazing hotel stay before heading home. The accommodation is actually luxury flat apartments and one of the best deals we have ever had in Scotland at only £55 for a night with special offer.
Scotland never fails to take my breath away with beautiful views around the next corner. The NC500 has some amazing driving roads amongst remote and breath-taking scenery.
If you do decide to do the NC500, or explore these areas be aware that most of the roads are single lane with small passing points.
