Experiment #421: Plasma Globe
(Rated G) Microwaving a plasma ball is something I've wanted to do for a very long time. I sort of did it in early on back in season 3 when I microwaved this tiny bulb that was about 4cm across or about an inch and a half, but it wasn't quite the real deal. Believe it or not, this was an average sized plasma globe (as you can tell from the beginning and the remains I pull out at the end), but I had to use a VERY big microwave to get it to work. One that so far is the biggest microwave on my show, making the Kenmore beast look like a Sharp Half-Pint by comparison. Funnily enough, this was also a Kenmore. I got the idea to do a plasma globe from dOvetastic who did one back in 2007, only he did a 15 inch one, this one was a mere 7".

If you're wondering why I took it off of the base and why I had to use a big microwave, observe when Jon tried it with a 700 watt microwave, and his appeared to only be a four or five inch globe.

And I'm definitely not afraid to nuke stuff while it's running. I've done many things that had batteries in and were powered on, I even did a clock radio that was plugged in externally. But anyways, I hope you enjoy this video. The focus is a bit weird because of the microwave being so much wider than tall, I sort of had to set it closer than I would have liked to. Still, I think I did a pretty good job of setting the focus to deep into the microwave. I'm usually pretty good at that. Microwave Me, now in its 15th season continues its trend of bigger and better microwave experiments than done the previous season while being filmed in 1080p for the best quality and as always stars Captain Microwave as the show's host and producer, who for this episode uses a giant Kenmore microwave.
