Experiment #461: Astronaut Ice Cream
(Rated G) I already microwaved regular ice cream so why not some space ice cream like the astronauts eat? In actuality, astronauts no longer eat freeze-dried ice cream, and the flavor used in the actual space missions in the 60's and 70's was vanilla. There's no actual evidence that neapolitan ice cream, the most famous flavor, was ever served in any space missions. Nowadays they prefer vacuum-sealed food in outer space, because the crumbs of freeze dried food can gum up the system. Anyways, the actual experiment itself was a dud. I was hoping the package would spark and provide a cool, interesting, fun plasma show, but it just sat there, starting at me. It was unfortunate, really. Also, I don't have a new microwave yet so I had to use my kitchen microwave, which isn't all that great at getting metal to spark (although it's good at blowing up stuff). The icecream itself was unaffected even though the package on the bottom did warm up a tiny bit. Granted, I doubt the actual ice cream itself would have done much beyond smoke due to lack of water, but it's hard to tell. Microwave Me is currently in its 17th season of production and is now the second longest continually running microwave show on YouTube, while being filmed in crystal clear 1080p for the best quality and as always stars Captain Microwave stars as the show's host and producer, who for this episode uses a 1978 GE Dual Wave microwave he named Jennie as a tribute to Jennie Garth of Beverly Hills 90210 fame.
